Match 6: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Vs Kings Xi Punjab (KXIP)

Date & Time – Wednesday, March 27th; 08:00pm IST

Venue – Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Two teams which clinched victory from the jaws of defeat in sensational manner will battle it out in front of 65,000 fans in Eden Gardens. With reviews still pouring in from experts and commoners on Ashwin’s ‘Mankading’ incident, he would aim at putting it behind him and moving on.

Pitch Report

When KKR took on SRH a couple of days back here at Eden Gardens, it was a 4pm game, so dew didn’t play a major role. The wicket was great to bat on. If dew comes into play, we can witness even more runs.

Must have picks

KL Rahul

After a rare failure in the previous match, KL Rahul is sure to fire on all cylinders against a bowling attack which he loves facing. His strike against Piyush Chawla, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell recently are 218, 241 and 200 respectively and has scored 171 runs in total against them.

Chris Gayle

A couple of days back, Chris Gayle won ‘Man of the Match’ award for his most recent exploits in Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Now, he’s back to his former home ground, where he had enjoyed a lot of success. He has scored 544 runs in 12 games at an average of over 54 and a strike rate of 161. His numbers against Sunil Narine are pretty weak but if he manages to negotiate with him, we all know the damage he can cause to other bowlers.

Lockie Ferguson

This tall quickie from New Zealand can really cause damage to the opposition with his pace. He is a genuine wicket taker, but he unfortunately could not take a wicket in his last match. He induced more false shots than any other bowler in his last match, yet it won’t be long for those false shots to find a fielder or the stumps.

Value for money picks

Ankit Rajpoot

Although he was expensive in his first 2 overs in the previous match, he came beautifully to pick up a couple of wickets and conceded just a solo boundary to guide his side safely to victory. Since IPL 2018, whenever he has bowled 4 overs in a game, he has picked up a minimum of 1 wicket in all but one game (10 out of 11 games).

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill hogged the limelight in the last game by winning it for his team with 2 huge maximums against Shakib al Hasan. He is an all-rounder and can bat anywhere in the batting order. Hopefully he gets to bat higher up the order after his last game exploits.

Suggested playing XI

  1. KL Rahul (C)
  2. Chris Gayle
  3. Chris Lynn
  4. Shubman Gill
  5. Sarfaraz Khan
  6. Andre Russell
  7. Sunil Narine
  8. Ravi Ashwin
  9. Lockie Ferguson (VC)
  10. Ankit Rajpoot
  11. Andrew Tye

Notable Misses

Nitish Rana

This might come as a surprise to many but Nitish Rana got exposed with a weakness for short balls during the second half of last season’s IPL. In the first 5 matches of IPL 2018, he averaged around 40 while in the remaining games his average dropped down to 16. Also, note that he got out to pace bowlers 9 times in the previous edition of IPL and knowing Ashwin, he would have found this pattern. Don’t be surprised if you see a barrage of bouncers when Nitish Rana comes to the crease.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman

KKR has got some of the best players of spin bowling with the likes of Robin Uthappa, Shubman Gill, Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana. He was expensive in the initial overs in the last game but was lucky to get amongst the wickets in the end when RR was collapsing sensationally
