IND and WI bring in new players to test the waters before World T20
Since the 2016 World Cup, these two teams have faced each other 6 times and India beat the West Indies 3-2 in that. Both teams are coming off in ordinary form in T20I but will look to try out combinations and fill in their best squad before the World T20 tournament in Australia next year. In the last 3 years, India has won 62% of their games and are placed 4th in the ICC rankings. Meanwhile the West Indies have had a tough time in their favourite format, winning just 33% of their games. They are ranked 8th currently. With the IPL, both teams know each other really well and it promises to be a mouth-watering contest.
India has rested all their main bowlers and gone with the youngsters. It will be really exciting to see the likes of Rahul Chahar and Navdeep Saini in the Indian colours. Washington Sundar, the promising all-rounder is also a welcome addition to the squad. The batting top order remains the same with the stalwarts – Rohit, Dhawan and Virat. The middle order will have some young legs in Pant, KL Rahul, Manish and Shreyas Iyer. The West Indies on the other hand have brought in their T20 specialists. S Narine and K Pollard, E Lewis, J Campbell, N Pooran and S Hetmyer form the exciting top order for the Caribbean side. You see the team and think big sixes, big runs immediately. How they cope with spin from Indian bowlers will probably define the contest.
The pitch is expected to be one where batsmen flourish, with the ball coming on to the bat nicely. The overhead conditions though, are quite muggy and rains are expected.
Coming off an amazing world cup, he should be full of confidence. His team won the IPL under his captaincy as well. Since 2017, he has been on par with Virat in consistency, and in the last series against the Windies too Rohit got a 100. With the pitch expected to be a belter, he is a must have for today’s match.
He might have a great ODI record but when it comes to T20 cricket, there are not many that match this man. He has smashed, torn apart bowling line-ups in the IPL as well as in the international circuit. The last time he played here at this ground, he smashed a 100. He is expected to walk in at 3.
He is another player coming off an excellent world cup. He has been that solid rock in the West Indies and has also struck at a more than healthy strike rate. His experience in the CPL and IPL will only help his case. He is arguably the best player of spin in this side and he knows the Indian spinners well. Walking in at 3 for the Windies, he is a must have player in your Dream11 fantasy cricket team.
His tight 4 overs and the ability to score some runs towards the end is an asset. He usually bowls the tough overs for his franchise team and is capable of doing the same for his country as well. He has also opened the bowling for his country. With the number of left handers in the West Indies team, he is expected to be more than a handful.
