Contest Overview – Can the Windies prevent a whitewash?
India have sealed the series but nothing will stop them from going for a whitewash at Guyana. They looked a bit rusty in the first game but came back much stronger in the second game, winning it comfortably, even though it was a rain affected match. The West Indies have gotten better as well. After that sub-100 total in the first game, they will be happy with their batting performance in the second game. The bowling hasn’t been too much of a worry. Contestants Outlook India had a series of challenges thrown at them but they aced it all. A good opening partnership and a good finish provided by the all-rounders. Their pacers took a beating initially in the second game but the spinners had them covered. The form of Virat might be the only small cause for concern. The Windies bowling looked good for most part of the two games and the batting line-up has grown with confidence as well. If the openers can get some runs, the unit will look much stronger.
India will look to test the bench with the series already in the bag. The wrist spinner Rahul Chahar and his cousin, Deepak may come in for Jaddu/Sundar and Bhuvi. Shreyas Iyer might get a chance too in place of Manish. Unless they want to try out A Bramble, they are likely to go in with the same team. There is still uncertainty about A Russell’s availability.
With some thunderstorms around the corner, the pitch is expected to be another tacky one with perhaps some extra bounce than the one in Florida. This will be the first T20I game at this venue since the World T20 in 2010.
The Hitman was at his destructive best the other day and a few deliveries to get in only helped him sight the ball better as his innings went on. With hardly any change expected in the WI bowling line-up, he should get another good score under his belt.
The most experienced player in the WI squad showed us what he is capable of in the first game. Even in the second, he looked very comfortable in his short stay.
He had a reasonably long wait before he could wear the Indian colours but now he is proving his worth. Some powerful hitting down the order, really tight 4 overs and also picking up wickets every time the skipper throws the ball to him. He is surely a player to watch out for.
The left handed opener has an amazing record against India and will be extremely disappointed with the two outings so far. He will be determined to perform today and if he gets going, it is really difficult to stop him.
He has not got a game so far but is likely to play today. The leg spinner had immense success in the IPL, not only against the foreigners but also the Indians. His quick arm action makes him hard to read and he is a wicket taker.
