Date & Time: Sunday, September 22, 19:00 IST
Venue: M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, India
Shorter boundaries and a spin dominance could portend a domination by Indian players in the fantasy cricket contest.
Chinnaswamy stadium is a smaller ground, where spinners (IPL 2019 avg: 23.81, economy: 7.95) have had a significantly better performance over the pacers (IPL 2019 avg: 30.68, economy: 9.62). Now SA has some decent batsmen, but not really the kind that can exploit the conditions. Neither Rassie van der Dussen nor Bavuma can be considered as explosive batsmen. Also, India has far better spin bowlers than SA. SA will need their openers to fire and their pacers to take a few quick wickets to make the series competitive.
Given that largely leggies were the most successful at the venue, we might see Rahul Chahar in the lineup in place of Krunal/ Jadeja/ Sundar in that order. If there is heavy rain before the start of the match, this might change. Also, Khaleel could be considered, but given Deepak Chahar’s performance in the last game and at the venue, and the fact that it is Saini’s home ground at the venue, we think that it is unlikely unless rain forces another pacer for a spinner. Rishab might go down to #5, and Shreyas might get to bat #4, especially if India lose their opening pair quickly.
Junior Dala should make his way back into the team, especially given his record against Rohit (23 runs, 7balls, 3 wickets). George Linde has the ability to hit big and given the shorter boundaries, he may get a shot today.
With short boundaries, and a beautiful batting surface, the Chinnaswamy is a batting paradise. Leggies have been extremely successful in this IPL, but given the weather conditions; we expect some early wickets to the pacers.
The best player without an apparent weakness against the opposition is a must have. He has a decent H2H record also, and while there is a bit of a contest against Rabada, we expect Kohli to come on top. With no leggies to trouble him, we expect Kohli to dominate today.
Quinton de Kock
Without FaF, De Kock becomes the mainstay of the SA batting lineup. He got a 50 in the last match and ended up with 72 points. The only player against whom he has a weakness is Deepak Chahar, but he faced only 4 balls from him in the previous match. It is on his shoulders that the hopes of SA rest.
Devastating with the bat, more than handy with the ball, Hardik brings great balance to the Indian side. He only got 29 points last game, but that is because there was not much needed from him. As a floater in the side, he can add a lot of runs in a small ground.
He has not been in great form of late, but he can be handy with both the bat and the ball. In the absence of other all rounders like Chris Morris, we expect Andile to be effective today like he was in the WC.
Rishabh disappointed us again with a questionable performance. With his spot in the team on the line, a big performance from him is needed. Will he deliver?
Bavuma is not one who can slog the ball. However, he can score a lot of runs. He played well last game and he is someone who can anchor the innings very well. He is in great form in T20s and we have to see if he can continue that.
A lot has been made of Rohit’s record against J Dala. However, digging a little deeper, Rohit has scored 23 runs in 7 balls and lost 3 wickets. If it is just a question of over aggression, then Rohit can easily weather the storm. We have to wait and see if it is a pattern or a just a skew in the data.
