Sylhet in search of their first win after two disheartening defeats
Sylhet were skittled out for 91 in the first innings against Rajshahi in their second match of BPL 2019. Their bowlers weren’t up to the mark in the first match, and in the second one, their batsmen failed. They would be looking to rectify it against Dhaka who won comprehensively against Cumilla Warriors. Thisara Perera was the star of the match for Dhaka with the ball as well as the bat. He scored 40 odd runs at a strike rate of over 200 and picked up 5 wickets. Tamim’s handy knock of 74 was also one of the bright spots for Dhaka.
Sylhet Thunder probable XI:
Johnson Charles, Rony Talukdar, Mohammad Mithun (wk), Mossaddek Hossain, Jeevan Mendis, Nazmul Hossain, Nayeem Hasan, Naveen-ul-Haq, Krishmar Santokie, Nazmul Islam, Ebadot Hossain.
Dhaka Platoon probable XI:
Anamul Haque (wk), Tamim Iqbal, Mahedi Hasan, Laurie Evans, Thisara Perera, Shahid Afridi, Wahab Riaz, Mashrafe Mortaza, Jaker Ali, Shuvgata Hom, Hasan Mahmud.
The pitch at Shere Bangla Stadium has been good for the side that has bat first in the evening match. The average score in the first innings at Dhaka has been around the 165 marks and two times teams have successfully defended of the three evening matches. The pacers have had more wickets than the spinners but spinners have been economical. Dew still continues to be a factor that affects play.
Tamim came into the party in the match against Cumilla scoring a well-composed half-century that handed Dhaka their first victory. Though he lost his opening partner in the first ball of the match, it didn’t affect his batting. Tamim has a PPM of 55.0 in this tour, he has accumulated a total of 110 points this tour. In the last five T20 matches Tamim has a PPM of 70.6.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder had a memorable previous match scoring 42 runs at a strike rate of 241 and bagged a five-wicket haul becoming the first bowler to scalp two five-wicket hauls in Bangladesh Premier League. His performance against Cumilla will be an encouraging factor to keep him in the fantasy team.
Mohammad Mithun is one of the premier batsmen that Sylhet will be banking on to perform. He started off the BPL 2019 campaign in a grand fashion scoring an unbeaten 84, but couldn’t convert his start against Cumilla to a big one. He has a PPM of 68.0 this tour, and in the last five T20 matches, he has PPM of 46.8 and an MDTA of 1.67.
Wahab’s consistency has been one of the prime features of his bowling off late. In the last nine T20 innings only twice he has been wicket-less. Though Perera stole the show against the Warriors, Wahab picked up two crucial wickets of Malan and Sarkar. In the last five matches, Wahab has a PPM of 38.8
