Evenly matched sides face off for a knockout contest
Trinbago Knight Riders have turned up when it mattered most after a series of losses heading into the playoffs. On the flip side, Guyana Amazon Warriors proved to be too good even for an in form Barbados in Qualifier-1. Now both the teams face off in Qualifier-2 on Friday at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. Barbados has been in great form in the second half of the season where they were boosted by quality overseas players. The side’s strength lies in its core all-rounder group which should hopefully continue their good form in the all-important game, unlike Qualifier-1. Knight Riders have depended heavily on Pollard and Simmons for runs. When it comes to bowling they were poor in the season. Although the availability of Narine seems to have proved otherwise in the eliminator and they hope the good streak continues as they head into the final.
Barbados is likely to stick with the same playing XI of the last match. Knight Riders might leave out S Prasanna and opt for J Nesham.
This is the first match being played at the Brian Lara Stadium this season. Generally, it has produced sporting games in the past couple of seasons where the average score of teams that bat first is around 150. The forecast is for rain before the match but there is no rain threat during the game.
Shakib Al Hasan
Apart from the last game where he had a poor outing, he has been consistent in the season. The presence of too many left-handers in the Guyana lineup might be one of the reasons for his wicket-less show. He is too good a player to miss out on two matches in a row.
He may be in and out of the squad in the season with injuries but whenever he played he had an impactful performance. In the last game, it was no different as his spell turned the game around for Knight Riders. He has an MDTA of 1.2 in the 6 matches played.
He is the heart of Knight Riders’ Top order in the season. In the last 6 games, he has come up with three 50+ scores which allowed others to bat around him, and consolidated the moderate form of others. He has a PPM of 61.5 in the season.
He has stood tall for Knight Riders in the middle order when the team needed acceleration or to solidify the early collapse. He has chipped in with a wicket or 20 odd runs in every match so far in the season which makes him the most sought after player in the Dream11 cricket team.
He has provided the team with good starts which is one of the reasons for Barbados’ good run with the bat in the season. In the last 6 matches, he has crossed 30+ scores on four occasions. He has a PPM of 57.4 in the last 5 games.
The young leg spinner has proved to be the match-winner for Barbados in the season with leading the wicket charts. He hasn’t gone wicketless so far in the season which makes him a must-have. He has a PPM of 81 and MDTA of 1 in the 7 matches played so far.
