CPL 2020 has been so fast and we are already into 12th game of the season. The third-placed Guyana Amazon will lock horns with fourth-placed Jamaica Tallawahs in the second game of the day. Guyana heading into the game on the back of a loss against St Lucia Zouks but they enter with confidence, as they have already beaten Jamaica in this season.
The Jamaica Tallawahs’ batting unit let them down big time as only three players managed to record double-digit scores in their previous match. With pitch also assisting bowlers, Tallawahs had a tough time in the middle. However, a change in the venue might help them, as there is something on offer for the batsmen too.
On the other hand, the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ batting unit has given some fine performances this season, but they haven’t been able to do it in unison. The likes of Brandon King, Hemraj need to get into the zone, while Pooran and Hetmyer have the burden on their shoulders to carry the batting department once again.
From a bowling point of view, both teams have got brilliant lineups. All the Tallawah bowlers, barring Oshane Thomas, did well in the season so far while Guyana is led by Imran Tahir with the ball. The team is heavily dependent on the spin department alongside the youngsters like Odean Smith and Naveen. Looking at both lineups, it seems like a nail-biting contest is in store.
Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Ross Taylor, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Chris Green (c), Naveen-ul-Haq, Ashmead Nedd, Imran Tahir.
Glenn Phillips, Chadwick Walton (wk), Nicholas Kirton, Rovman Powell (c), Asif Ali, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Veerasammy Permaul, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Oshane Thomas/Fidel Edwards.
Well, there will be a sigh of relief for the batsmen as they are about to play on a more batting friendly field. Bowlers have ruled the charts in the previous venue and one might see batsmen getting a bit of advantage in the new venue, Queen’s Park Oval. However, with average score being 150-160, bowlers will also have their chances to make things fall in place for their respective teams.
Finally, Andre Russell has made a significant score in the tournament in the previous clash. Once he gets into his zone, it is tough to stop him. The only fifty he scored in the CPL 2020 also came against this team. Thus, he is our default must-have pick.
The stylish southpaw has been exceptional with his work at the top order for Jamaica. He has been consistent and scoring runs on a regular basis for the team. We expect him to deliver once again in this contest, thus, we chose him as our must-have player.
He started the new season of the tournament on a positive note and will look to make things happen for one more time. With conditions looking a bit brighter for the batsmen, Hetmyer might deliver big in the new venue.
Without any other considerations, Imran Tahir must be your first pick in the bowling section for this game. The experienced campaigner has been exceptional in the tournament so far and most likely, he would deliver once again for the team.
The stylish batsman has finally come into his zone on the other day to make things fall in place for Jamaica. He is our big bet for this game, as we expect him to deliver once again for the team.
