Will the West Indies keep their slimmest of hopes to semi finals alive?
After an impressive start to the World Cup against Pakistan, the West Indies lost their way as they became more predictable with the ball. Their T20 style batting doesn’t seem to help in finding their way either. On the other hand, New Zealand is yet to face defeat in the tournament. It looks like they have almost cleared their way to the semi-finals. But having said that, they have some issues to settle in their batting which has made them work hard for a couple of victories. So if the West Indies bowlers restrict the Kiwis for a par score or if they can post a good total on the board a win is not too far away.
New Zealand is unlikely to make any changes to their winning combination unless they consider Henry Nicholls in place of Colin Munro. West Indies captain Jason Holder has confirmed that Russell who is suffering from a knee injury is likely to be rested. So that brings A Nurse and Carlos Brathwaite into the contention and Bravo might be the unluckiest one to make a way.
The surface at Old Trafford has produced high scoring contests in the World Cup and it would more or less be the same for Saturday’s contest. The forecast is clear for the day with some cloud cover.
He may not have been in the greatest of form leading into the World Cup, but the Kiwi skipper found some form in the tournament. He has scored 225 runs in the 3 games played so far which includes a match-winning century against the Proteas in the last game. He also has a good record against West Indies bowlers in the last few encounters where he has got out only once. So the above factors make him a must have player in Dream11 fantasy cricket team for today’s match.
The left arm pacer is yet to find his rhythm in the tournament. He has picked 3 wickets in the three games played so far. He has a great record against West Indies batsmen in the last few encounters. He has got better of Shai Hope thrice, Evin Lewis, Gayle, Hetmyer once each. So if he can use the early movement to good effect there is every chance for him to continue the good form against the Windies.
He is the side’s consistent batsman over the last couple of years and this tournament is no different. He is the top run getter for the Windies. In addition to his present form, his good record against most of the Kiwi bowlers is also in his favor. Boult is the only one who troubled Hope, as he got out thrice to him in last 4 encounters.
The West Indies skipper may not have been effective with the ball as he usually is, but he came up with handy contributions with the bat so far in the tournament. On Saturday his batting will be even more crucial for the West Indies with Russell’s unavailability.
