India face Depleted South Africa in their tournament opener

The World Cup has picked up some pace in the past few matches and it will become even better when India faces South Africa in their first match of the tournament at The Rose Bowl. India is in great form in the last couple of years and they only stand behind England in the ICC ODI rankings. Coming back to the World Cup, India lost against New Zealand in the warm-up fixture but turned around against Bangladesh which will certainly keep them in good spirits. On the other hand, South Africa has lost its first two matches of the tournament and the last defeat against Bangladesh would have hurt them the most, especially with regards to the injury concerns of their pacers. The Proteas camp is under tremendous pressure for a win, as another defeat here can hamper their chances of finishing in Top.4.

Team News

South Africa is likely to bring in Pretorious in place of the injured Nigidi. With Amla available for selection, it leaves Millier out of the playing XI. On the other hand, Vijay Shankar, Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, and Bhuveshwar Kumar are likely to sit out for India on Wednesday.

Pitch Report

The Surface at the Rose Bowl has produced high scoring contests in the last few games here where the average score has been around 310. So we can expect another high scoring contest on Wednesday. Weather-wise there is a slight chance of rain early in the morning which could assist pacers early on.

Must have players

Virat Kohli

One just can’t go past the Indian Captain who is the modern day great as far as ODIs are concerned. He has a phenomenal record against the Proteas in the last 5 matches, in which he scored nearly 500 runs and was dismissed only twice to the present set of South African bowlers. Adding to it, he started off the last two World Cup’s with a century and he will be eager to continue the same against South Africa. The above factors make him a must-have batsman in all the Dream11 fantasy teams.

Shikhar Dhawan

There is always some kismet with Dhawan and ICC events, he just comes to his best in mega events irrespective of the form. Now there is added advantage as Dhawan is coming into this after a great IPL stint. He was the leading run scorer for his franchise. He also has a great record against South Africa in the ICC events which makes him a threat for the Proteas.

Faf du Plessis

He has been a consistent performer for the side in the first two games of the tournament where he has come up with scores of 62, 88 respectively. He also has a good record against India in the last 3 encounters and he will be eager to continue it with his team in such a situation early in the tournament.

Kuldeep Yadav

He may not have been in great form in IPL but when it comes to ODIs he is an integral part of India’s bowling attack and he showcased the same in the warmup fixture against Bangladesh. He also has a great record against South Africa in the last 5 matches where he picked 12 wickets at a strike rate of 14.92. South Africa’s weakness against spin makes him a worthy option for Dream11 fantasy cricket players.

Yuzvendra Chahal

He is coming into the world cup on the back of a good IPL stint and he also has a good record in this format in recent times. Adding to his present form, he also has a great record against the Proteas, where he picked 10 wickets in the last 5 matches against them. These factors make him a must have bowler in all the Dream11 fantasy cricket teams for today’s match.

X factor players / Big bets

Hashim Amla

He may have not been in great form coming into the World Cup but he came back strong with a couple of half-centuries in the warm up fixtures. On Wednesday, if South Africa has to challenge India he has to come up with a big knock. Amla is known to be a big match player and he is expected to bring in a good break for South Africa today.

Notable Misses

Aiden Markram

He misses out from most of our Grand league teams because of his poor head to head stats against Indian bowlers in last 5 encounters. Apart from Bhuvenshwar Kumar, he hasstruggled to score runs against the rest of the bowlers. He got out to Bumrah and Kuldeep twice each and has a strike rate of 54.55 & 43.18 respectively.
