South Africa U19 (SA-U19) vs Afghanistan U19 (AF-U19)

The hosts have a chance to salvage pride

South Africa and Afghanistan which have faced each other in the opener of the World Cup 2020 will once again lock horns in the 7th place playoff match in Benoni. The hosts, South Africa have lost the very opening match against Afghanistan. Apart from a couple of wins against the lower-ranked teams, the hosts didn’t have much success. On the other side, Afghanistan has been unstoppable in the group stage but they failed to replicate the same in the quarterfinals. After that, both sides have also lost their 5th Playoff Semi Final-2 as well. Now both sides seek not to finish at the bottom in the top 8 spots. So it will be interesting to see whether Afghanistan makes it 2-0 against the hosts or the hosts will give it back to the Afghans.

Pitch & Conditions

The average score of the first innings in the 3 matches played in the tournament is 237. Both spin and pace have done equally well in those matches. The weather forecast is overcast conditions and there is a prediction for a couple of showers in the afternoon so expect pacers to have the advantage in this match.

Must have players

Luke Beaufort

He is the top run-getter for South Africa in the tournament where he scored at a PPM of 55 in the 5 matches played. The last time when these two sides played, he scored 33 points. Now we expect him to score more points given his improvements in the form ever since the opening match.

Farhan Zakhil

He may be slow to start off the tournament but he has scored 40 & 91 in the last two games against the big opposition in pressure situations. His MDTA of 1.33 in the four matches played makes him a must-have in today’s match.

Bryce Parsons

He is the top point scorer for South Africa in the tournament with a PPM of 95. He may be inconsistent with the bat but with the ball, he has chipped in with at least a wicket every match. He has scored 40 odd runs when these two sides met earlier in the tour.

Shafiqullah Ghafari

He is the top point scorer for the match with a PPM of 103 from 4 matches played in the tour. He might have dipped his scoring in the last few games but expect him to bounce back against South Africa given he has picked 5 wickets in the last encounter between these two sides.
