New Zealand (NZ) Vs India (IND)

Post bagging series India to try out different combination; New Zealand chases a consoling win

Now that India has clinched the series, they may look to try out their back up options in the two matches left. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and Navdeep Saini might be in contention for the next few matches. The series has been a fruitful one for India, finding solutions to different permutations and combinations. However, India doesn’t have a memory to cherish at this venue, the last time they played here New Zealand smashed 219 and India was bundled out for 139.

New Zealand have themselves to blame in the loss of the series. In the first T20I their batting was exceptional but the bowling was a failure and in the second one batting was in total disarray. In the third T20I, it was the haunts of the super over that handed India the series. The problem has been their bowlers, probably the absence of Trent Boult might also be one of the reasons.

Team News

India might consider resting few of their main players and bringing in bench Players to test their strength. New Zealand have left out Colin de Grandhomme and brought in Tom Bruce into their 13 member squad for the last two T20Is.

New Zealand Probable XI:

Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson (c), Ross Taylor, Tim Seifert (wk), Tom Bruce/Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Scott Kuggeleijn, Ish Sodhi, Hamish Bennett

India Probable XI:

Lokesh Rahul (wk), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (c), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Shivam Dube/Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal/Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur/Navdeep Saini, Jasprit Bumrah.

Pitch and Conditions

The Wellington pitch in general has been a moderate one, not like the other venues of New Zealand. The average first innings score has been on the higher side. In the 11 innings played here the first innings average score has been 160/7. However, in the last 5 matches it has been 178/7. The teams chasing have in general had the benefit but in the last 5 matches teams batting first have won in 4 of the occasions. The pacers have picked double the amount of wickets than the spinners at this venue but the spinners have been economical conceding less than 7.5 runs.

Must have players

Lokesh Rahul

Lokesh Rahul, a name that has been reaching new heights in white ball. Rahul’s consistency is something that has to be lauded, since 2019, there has been only 4 innings in which he hasn’t scored a 30+ runs in the 14 matches he has played. In this series, he has scored two fifties and has been instrumental in India’s wins. His scintillating form directly affected his points in the fantasy league, with PPM of 69.67 in this series, he has been a part of the dream team in all the three.

Kane Williamson

Williamson’s return to T20Is has been profitable for him. With two fifties in this series he is the highest run scorer and unimaginably his strike rate is the best of all the batsmen this series. He leads not only in runs, but also in PPM with 72.67 and an MDTA of 1.5.

Shreyas Iyer

In the given chances Shreyas Iyer has been productive this series. He is the 3rd highest run scorer this series with more than 100 runs at an impressive strike rate of 153. He has PPM of 55.67 and an MDTA of 1.5 this series. He is definitely one of the players to watch out for, whether its fantasy base or cricket base.

Ravindra Jadeja

What a series Jadeja is having! While being sidelined in limited overs unit, he has still made a great comeback in the recent times. Even though all the three matches have generally been high scoring ones, it hasn’t been of concern to Jaddu as he has conceded at an economy of less than 6 runs per over with 4 wickets to his name. Among the bowlers Jadeja tops the PPM list with 45.33 and an MDTA of 1.5. No wonder he is one of the most wanted bowlers in the fantasy team.

Martin Guptill

The dashing opener showed his abilities as a hard hitter, but the problem has been his conversion from that 30 to a big one, he has scored 30+ runs in all the three innings. At Wellington, Guptill’s record is fascinating, in the 9 innings he has played here he has scored 328 runs at an average of 41. He is one of the batsmen who has been a part of the dream team in all the three matches. With a PPM of 45.33, he is one of the hot picks in the fantasy team.
