England vs Ireland! After a captivating test series between England and West Indies now it’s time for One Day cricket to be back with the 3 match ODI series between the neighboring nations. Unlike the Test Series, there are a lot of key players missing in the England side with the likes of Root, Stokes, Butler & Archer. But there is enough strength in the limited-overs step up to cover the big boots against Ireland. On the other hand, It’s a great chance for Ireland to make the most of the hosts depleted side. But if there is anything to go by, with regards to the performance of the practice match a few days ago, it looks like the depleted side of the host is far too good for the visitors. So a victory for Ireland will upset the hosts for sure.
Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, James Vince, Eoin Morgan (capt), Sam Billings, Tom Banton, Moeen Ali, Tom Curran, Adil Rashid, David Willey, Saqib Mahmood.
Paul Stirling, Gareth Delany, Andrew Balbirnie (c), William Porterfield, Kevin O’Brien, Lorcan Tucker, Simi Singh, Andrew McBride, Boyd Rankin, Barry McCarthy, Craig Young.
Southampton has been a sporting venue in recent times by offering enough assistance for both pacers & spinners. But without many matches played in this season it won’t be a surprise if turns to be a flat track.
The opening batsman has a point to prove with big knocks in this series to send a message to the selectors that he should be the man behind the stumps in test cricket. The runs in the series might not be enough but will surely be a starting point towards his recall in the longer format.
The flamboyant batsman has shown why he is key to England’s top order in the past couple of years. He may have had a quiet series in South Africa earlier in the year but now he will be eager to replicate his PPM of 64 in England.
He is one of the most consistent performers for Ireland for a while now. A lot of his performances might have come against the lower-ranked teams but he stood apart from other players in the side for sure. Adding to it his experience playing domestic cricket in England makes him a hot pick from Ireland.
He can be expensive with the ball at times but he has the knack of picking wickets at regular intervals. He also adds a lot to the team with the bat when needed. Now a good series here will take his place a notch higher equal with the regulars in the ODI set up.
