AB de Villiers blocks bowling heavy Mandela Bay Giants look at their first final
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants have been one of the most comprehensive teams in the league stage of MSL 2019. Bay Giants have three bowlers who have taken more than 10 wickets in this season of MSL, which shows their bowling domination. Whereas, for the Spartans, Morne Morkel has to take the burden of picking up wickets. Against a strong bowling line up of Bay Giants, AB has the responsibility of scoring the runs as he is the only Spartans batsman to score more than 200 runs.
Ben Dunk has had a stupendous season of MSL 2019, Bay Giants would be hoping that Dunk continues his dream run and lead them to the finals. The skipper of Bay Giants also has had a decent tournament scoring over 200 runs and bagging few wickets as well. Their performance with bat and ball has led them to gain points every match in the fantasy XI. Dunk has a PPM of 62.1 and Smuts has a PPM of 57.0. AB de Villiers leads the PPM list with 66.6 in the tournament and has an MDTA of 1.0 which means he has been in the dream team every match.
The highest wicket-taker of this tournament Imran Tahir has been a part of the dream team in all the matches that he has played so far, but Morne Morkel leads the PPM chart among the bowlers. Morne has a PPM of 53.4 and an MDTA of 1.25 and Tahir has a PPM of 51.5 and MDTA of 1.0.
Both teams are expected to make one change from their previous match. For the Bay Giants, Junior Dala would be making a comeback in place of M Nabe and for Spartans de Zorzi might make way for Dean Elgar.
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants probable XI:
Ben Dunk (wk), Matthew Breetzke, JJ Smuts (c), Hieno Kuhn, Ryan ten Doeschate, Marco Marais, Chris Morris, Nandre Burger, Akhona Mnyaka, Junior Dala, Imran Tahir.
Tshwane Spartans probable XI:
Dean Elgar, Wiaan Mulder, AB de Villiers, Heinrich Klaasen (c & wk), Pite van Biljon, Tom Curran, R van der Merwe, Corbin Bosch, Morne Morkel, Lungi Ngidi, Waqar Salamkheil.
The pitch has been a good one to bat on at St George’s Park this season. The average score which has slightly been on the higher side with 177 on an average of 5 wickets per innings indicates that batsmen can score runs freely at this venue. The pacers have had the upper hand with 36 wickets against 21. The conditions are expected to be cool and calm with the temperature hovering around 22°C with a slight breeze.
The star batsman of Spartans has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders to take the team over the line and help them enter the finals, AB is the only batsman to score more than 200 runs for Tshwane Spartans. Its not surprising that he tops the PPM list with 66.6 and has appeared in the dream team every match. It’s a non-thinking option that AB has to be in the fantasy XI.
The highest run-scorer of MSL 2019 needs to carry forward his purple patch so that NMG can reach their first finals. The last time these two teams met, Dunk played a memorable knock to take Bay Giants over the rope. Dunk is second in the list with PPM of 62.1.
The skipper and Dunks both have dominated in the batting department for Bay Giants in this tournament. His PPM of 57.0 is the third-best among all the players and his MDTA of 1.13 is also the second-best.
Who wouldn’t want Tahir in their fantasy XI? The leg spinner has become a maestro in the shortest format of the game. He is the highest wicket-taker in this tournament with 16 wickets and not to say that he has been a part of the dream team in all the matches he has played. He has a PPM of 51.5 and an MDTA of 1.0.
The tall lanky bowler has been the best for Tshwane Spartans and again his experience will be the key for Spartans in the eliminator. Morkel has the highest PPM for a bowler among the two teams, he has a PPM of 53.4 and an MDTA of 1.25.
Chris Morris is one of the three bowlers of Bay Giants to have more than 10 wickets in this tournament. He has a PPM of 39.3 and an MDTA of 1.5. His power hitting at death overs will also be one of the considerations that will tempt one to keep Morris in the fantasy team.
