Rocks and Spartans hunt for their first MSL title
It’s time for the mega finale of MSL 2019 when the hosts Paarl rocks take on Spartans on Monday. Both sides have had their highs and lows throughout the tournament. Both sides haven’t depended on one particular department to get the job done but in the batting, they have relied at specific times. So a lot depends on how those consistent batsmen perform in the finale.
AB Devilliers is the top-rated batsman in the match, with a PPM of 61 in the tour. Cameron Delport, James Vince and P Biljon are next in the pecking order who have a PPM above 40 in the tour. There are quite a few all-rounders in both the teams who can be crucial in the finale. David Wiese, Duaine Pretorious and R Merwe are the top-rated all-rounders in the match.
In bowling, Morne Morkel leads the charts with a PPM of 55 and T Shamsi is next in the list with a PPM of 44. I Udana and B Fortuin follow with a PPM in 30’s in the tour.
The hosts are in for a couple of changes with the availability of Viljoen and Pretorius. So it means F Adams and K Mungroo may be put to rest and not feature in the Playing XI.
Paarl Rocks possible XI
Henry Davids, Cameron Delport, Faf du Plessis(c), James Vince, Dwaine Pretorius, Kyle Verreynne(w), Sibonelo Makhanya, Isuru Udana, Bjorn Fortuin, Tabraiz Shamsi, Hardus Viljoen.
The Spartans are likely to stick with the winning combination.
Tshwane Spartans possible XI
Dean Elgar, Tony de Zorzi, AB de Villiers, Heinrich Klaasen(w/c), Petrus van Biljon, David Wiese, Roelof van der Merwe, Corbin Bosch, Imran Manack, Morne Morkel, Lutho Sipamla.
The surface in Paarl has been on the high scoring side in the tournament with the average score of first innings is around 170. When it comes to bowling both spin and pace has had their equal say. So expect a cracker of a contest if players exploit conditions to good effect.
The Spartans’ leading run-scorer is a must-have in the crucial game of the tournament. He has an impressive PPM of 61 and MDTA of 1 in the tour. He also has a great record of the Rocks bowlers in recent times which makes him the most sought after player in the Dream11 cricket team.
The Rocks captain has found form when it mattered the most i.e. at the end of the tournament. He has a PPM for 46 and MDTA of 1.67 in the last five games. His experience in the format and playing at home makes him a must-have in today’s match.
He is among the top 3 wicket-takers of the tournament. He has chipped in with at least a wicket in each match. His record against Duplessis could well define the match. He dismissed the Rocks captain twice in the 13 balls bowled. His PPM of 55 and MDTA of 1.2 makes him a preferred choice in today’s match.
He has stepped up to the occasion whenever the top order struggled to score runs. In the tournament, he may have bat only on a few occasions but he chipped in with runs whenever the team needed. He has a PPM of 40 and MDTA of 2 even without batting twice in the six matches played.
The return of the all-rounder after a break is a huge boost for the hosts. He has been among the top all-rounders in the tour before being injured. He has a PPM of 56 and an MDTA of 1.33 in the four matches played.
His form in the tour has been similar to Duplessis. He has played a crucial role in the second half of the tournament. He scored runs even in times when others struggled to score. He has a PPM of 58.4 and an MDTA of 1.25 in the last 5 matches.
