The Stars in search for their first win
In the second match of Sunday’s doubleheader, the Jozi Stars host the Tshwane Spartans in Johannesburg. The campaign of these two sides has gone in their own ways. Jozi Starts, the defending champions are now in a must-win situation, after losing as many as 5 matches played in the season. On the other hand, the Spartans‘ campaign has been affected by rain. Three out of the four matches have gone in vain and in the only other match where rain did not interfere, the Spartans won against the Rocks. Now with no rain around for the Sunday’s match, the Spartans aim to end the season of Stars at their own fortress.
The hosts might consider few changes given how the season has panned out for them so far. The Spartans is likely to stick with the same Playing XI of their last match.
The surface in Johannesburg is known to produce high scoring games and in the two played in the season it has been the same. So expect another high scoring game if batsmen use the conditions on the offer to good effect.
The Spartans’ opening batsman had come up with a couple of good knocks so far one of which had gone in vain with rain playing spoilsport. He may be playing the format after a year‘s gap but he has continued from where he left. He has a PPM of 55 and an MDTA of 1.25 in the tour.
The side may be going through a rough patch, but he has been consistent for the side at the top of the order. His performances are one of the reasons for the team’s fight in a couple of matches. He has an impressive PPM of 56.4 and an MDTA of 1.25 in the tour.
It was a surprise that Bavuma changed the batting order in the last match which made him sit in the dugout. But with the season on the line from now on, he may go back to the top of the order where the team needs him the most. He has a PPM of 45.8 and an MDTA of 1.25 in the tour.
He has continued his recent good form in the tournament. He provided the team with good starts alongside Elgar at the top of the order. His PPM of 66.8 and MDTA of 1 in the last 5 games makes him a must-have in today’s match.
