Venue: Kennington Oval, London, England
Here comes the clash of the season. Two in-form teams are all set to lock horns with each other tonight at Kennington Oval. As the number one position in points table is at stake for both teams, it will be an interesting clash to watch for the spectators.
As always, Surrey will rely on the top-order batting that consists of Will Jacks, Hashim Amla and Evans. They have been scoring runs on a consistent basis while the spin duo Moriarty and Gareth Batty have been performing well. In fast bowling, Reece Topley has the work to do.
On the other hand, Sussex currently sits on top of the table only because of the performances from Luke Wrights and David Wiese. They both have been brilliant in this season while Ravi Bopara’s form is an area of concern. However, the addition of Phil Salt for this clash is an advantage. In bowling, Mills is carrying the burden successfully. All in all, a quality clash is in store for the fans tonight.
Sussex has named Phil Salt for this clash, as he was asked to join the Sharks by national team with Morgan-led England have no injury concerns. However, Sussex will miss the services of Chris Jordon for this contest.
Phil Salt (WK), Luke Wright (c), Aaron Thomason, Calum MacLeod, Delray Rawlins, David Wiese, Ravi Bopara, George Garton, Ollie Robinson, Danny Briggs, Tymal Mills
Hashim Amla, Will Jacks, Laurie Evans, Ben Foakes (wk), Rory Burns, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson, Daniel Moriarty, Gareth Batty (c), Reece Topley
The wicket at Kennington Oval always gives an edge for the bowlers, with big boundaries on offer. The pitch has also become slow in the recent past, which makes life hard for the batsmen. Both teams have already got brilliant bowlers in the lineup, which certainly promises an even contest tonight.
Without any further considerations, one has to pick Luke Wright in their starting XI. He has been in scintillating form and there are no reasons to remove him from the must-have list. Wright carries exceptional numbers in this season.
Amla already played a couple of match-winning knocks in his limited appearances for Surrey. He has been whacking the ball nicely and delivering goods on a consistent basis. Thus, we opted him as our must-have player.
Wiese has been consistent in the tournament so far in both sections of the game. He has turned himself into a match-winner for Sussex this season by scoring match-winning knocks with the bat in the middle-order and also performing well with the ball.
Salt has made a comeback into the squad for this contest and he is raring to go. He has got brilliant stats to his name and got the knack of scoring some quick runs at the top. With pitch expected to be beneficial for batsmen in the initial overs, we expect him to go berserk in the middle. Thus, we opted him as our Big Bet.
He is our major miss for this contest. Topley has got good career stats but unfortunately, he hasn’t been that consistent in this season for Surrey. Thus, we opted for an extra all-rounder for this contest alongside an extra-spinner.
