Date & Time: Sunday, August 04, 19:15 IST
Venue: MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, India
Both teams have had heavy losses in their previous two games (Karaikudi 4 in a row) and they need to win both their remaining games to qualify for the playoffs. Not an impossible task as both sides are stacked with some experienced and talented players. They will be playing the first game at the MAC stadium in Chennai and they will look to put up a show. The Kaalai bowlers have just about been on par or slightly lesser at times but their batsmen have let them down big time. Barring Anirudha, nobody has scored an aggregate of more than 76 runs. If he fails, they put up a score well below par. The other batsmen should step if they want to go through to the next stage of the tournament. The Kings on the other hand have a settled batting and bowling line-up but somehow it has either been a hit or a miss for them. They have match winning bowlers and batsmen and they will look to put up a team performance tonight.
KAR have chopped and changed a few times but no combination has seemed to work for them. They are likely to go back to their winning combination of 5 batsmen, 3 all-rounders and 3 bowlers. LYC are likely to make just one change – replace J Sinivas with Manigandan.
The pitch is expected to be a belter and then slow down to assist the spinners as the game goes on.
He is probably one of the biggest names in the league and you can’t expect him to underperform 3 games in a row. Big stage, must win game and you have to back him to get the runs tonight.
The lone warrior in the KAR team. He has scored 28% of the team’s runs this season so far. Even if KAR don’t do too well, he scores runs and that makes him a must have for today’s match.
The all-rounder has been in smashing form. Coming in with 6-7 overs to go, he has been clearing the ropes comfortably and consistently as well. He is the second highest run scorer and wicket taker for his side. Another big match player and a must have one at that, given his all-round abilities.
His 3 overs at the top and 1 over at the death have yielded so many important wickets for the Kings. Even though his best figures are 2/12, he has consistently picked up wickets and also showed us that he is no mug with the bat in his previous game.
The southpaw had an aggregate of 368 runs at a SR 155 over the last 3 seasons but has failed to make an impact this season. His strong finishes are something that the Kaalai rely heavily on to put up good totals.
