Last year’s finalists fight for a place in final
Only one of the last season’s finalists will make it to this season finale as Dindigul Dragons face off Madurai Panthers in Qualifier-2 on Tuesday. Having gone unbeaten till the penultimate match of the league phase, Dindigul Dragons have lost the last match of the group stage and the Qualifier-1. Now, they find themselves in a must-win game after all the hard work done earlier. Adding to it, they have to deal with the absence of Ashwin, who has left the team for national duties. On the other side, the defending Champions Madurai may have started off the season slowly but they peaked in the second half of the season with big wins at the fag end of the league phase. The Dragons may have taken revenge for last year’s final in the league phase, but now can they produce the same with the loss of momentum against Madurai?
Ravichandran Ashwin’s absence forces Dindigul to bring either Trilok Nag or Sujay for the crucial contest. On the other hand, Madurai is likely to stick with the winning combination.
The surface in Dindigul has produced high scoring games even in the second half of the season, but the track usually slowed down in the second innings of every match which makes the toss crucial for the Qualifier -2. There is a forecast of a few showers in the afternoon, but there is no rain threat for the match.
He is the most consistent batsman of the season with 398 runs from 8 games. He has scored runs for Dindigul irrespective of how other batsmen played around him. If Dindigul has to go one step ahead then he has to continue the good form, especially in the absence of the experienced Ashwin. He holds the key for Dindigul.
He is Madurai’s Jagadeesan when it comes to scoring runs consistently. He is at No.3 in the leading run-scorers of the season with 345 runs from 8 games. He has scored four 30+ scorers in the last five matches which makes him a must-have in Qualifier-2.
He may not have come up with match-winning performances but he has proved to be a handy allrounder for Madurai this season. His contributions in the middle order with the bat and his handy bowling has been underrated thus far, but come on Tuesday he holds the key for Madurai against the strong Dindigul side.
He has been a good fuel for Jagadeesan and Dindigul at the top order. He showed that he is the kind of player who can change the complexation of the game by scoring big. The very quality in him makes a big bet player to consider in the Dream 11 cricket team.
