Batsmen in focus as Sussex and Worcestershire gear up for a crucial encounter

Sussex the South Group table-toppers face-off Worcestershire from the North Group in the 3rd Quarter final of T20 Blast 2019 at the County Cricket Ground in Hove. Apart from 3 losses, Sussex has gone through a prolific run in the league phase. They are blessed with team performances as one or other player stepped up to the occasion at different times. On the other hand, the team from the North group has relied heavily on the Top 4 with the bat, but they have been more decisive with the ball with an allround attack. So the outcome on Friday’s crucial contest depends on how the batsmen tackle the decent bowling attacks from either side.

Pitch & Conditions

The surface in Hove has been sporting enough in the season where the average score of teams that bat first is around 150. It is likely to remain the same for the crucial contest by providing enough assistance for bowlers. The forecast is for a cloudy day in Hove but there is no threat of rain for the match.

Must have players

Luke Wright

The veteran batsman has lived up to the pre-season expectations oh him as he topped the charts for the second time in a row, He has scored 360 runs from 11 innings played so far. His cautious approach allowed Salt and Evans to play their natural game.

Laurie Evans

He may have been slightly slow to start off early in the season, but since his heroic knock against Kent, he hasn’t looked back. He has come up with at least a 30+ score four times in the last 5 innings which makes him a worthy pick for today’s match.

Moeen Ali

He might have played only a handful of games in the season so far, but he has come up with compelling performances in those matches. His ability to bat at any position and still have the same impact is the reason for his success. His present form makes him a must-have player in the Dream11 cricket team.

Ed Barnard

He is the most consistent player for Worcestershire in the season. Apart from the first match of the season, he may not have come up with an impactful performance yet but he has chipped in an at least a wicket or came up with handy runs down the order.
