Can Vipers push Stars?
The defending Champions, Surrey Stars has started the season with back to back victories. In the opening match, they have defended 130 against Yorkshire Diamonds and followed it up with a resounding victory against Lancashire Thunder On the other side, Southern Vipers have won the opening two games against Lancashire Thunder and Loughborough Lightning before losing to Western Storm in the third. The last two games would have gone either way for Southern Vipers as the games went into the wire. Now it is intriguing to see whether they can push dominant Surrey as they did with other teams in the last two games
Both the teams unlikely to change the playing XI from the previous match.
Surrey Stars Possible XI: Lizelle Lee; Bryony Smith; Sarah Taylor; Dane van Niekerk; Natalie Sciver (C); Laura Marsh; Marizanne Kapp; Aylish Cranstone; Amy Gordon; Gwenan Davies; Mady Villiers.
Southern Vipers Possible XI: Danielle Wyatt; Suzie Bates; Tammy Beaumont (C); Thea Brookes; Stafanie Taylor; Maia Bouchier; Paige Scholfield; Amanda Wellington; Carla Rudd (WK); Lauren Bell; Tash Farrant.
The surface at Kennington Oval is known for producing high scoring games and it is more or less the same case in the ongoing T20 Blast. So expect a high scoring game for Monday’s clash as well. The forecast is for a few showers prior to the match, so anticipate a delayed start.
Southern Vipers opening batswoman may not have had a great run in the recently concluded Ashes, but she has fired up for the Women’s Cricket Super League. She has come up with back to back vital knocks in the opening two games. Adding to it, She has also become handy with his off-spinners where she picked a crucial couple of wickets against Lancashire Thunder which in turn changed the game for the Vipers.
One of the most well scored all-rounders in Women’s cricket has lived up to the expectations on her. She has scored three 30+ scores on the trot in the tournament and picked a couple of wickets so far. She is yet to come up with her best with the ball which makes her even more potent once she finds the ideal rhythm.
Dane van Niekerk
The South African women’s skipper is in some form of late, where she piled on runs and was also amongst the top 10 wicket-takers in this calendar year. In this tournament, she has come up with an all-round effort against Yorkshire Diamonds and followed it up with a 3 wicket haul against Lancashire Thunder. So the present form and consistency make her a must-have player in today’s match.
She has come into the tournament on the back of a decent Ashes form, where she came up with all-round performance in the ODI series. In this tournament, it is no different where she scored 36 runs & picked 3 wickets in three matches played so far. There is every chance she will continue the same in today’s match as well.
