England demolish defending champions, enter finals
The thrilling semifinal at Old Trafford was followed up by a one-sided affair at Edgbaston. England made their way into the final of the World Cup after 27 long years. The wait was unfolded by an impressive opening spell, where they ripped off the Aussies for 14/3 in the opening powerplay. Later, Smith and Carey rebuilt the innings for some time but other than that little phase England was all over Australia as they restricted them to a below-par score on a decent batting track. It was followed by sensational batting from Roy, who took the Australian bowlers to the cleaners which led England to victory in just 32.1 overs.
Jason Roy
He had once again come up with a brilliant start to the England innings. He was aggressive from the outset as he took Australian bowlers to the cleaners after a cautious approach early in the innings. His knock allowed Bairstow to flow under the radar after his heroics in the past two games. Roy was the top performer of Dream11 cricket team with 56 fantasy points.
Steven Smith
It was his characteristic fight back that made the Aussies post a decent total on the board. His partnership with Carey gave them some hope in the first half of the match. After the departure of Carey, he continued his good work even with the fall of wickets around him. He made 49.5 fantasy points and proved to be a worthy pick for Dream11 fantasy cricket players.
Chris Woakes
His opening spell alongside Archer was the defining moment of the match. He dismissed the dangerous David Warner early in the innings with a ripper and soon after sneaked through Handscomb’s defense. In the end, he got the better of Starc who tried to play a handy cameo. He was adjudged as the player of the match for his impressive opening spell.
Adil Rashid
He continued the good work done by new-ball bowlers. He proved to be effective for the first time in the tournament and it couldn’t have come up at a better time for England. He dismissed the likes of Carey and Stoinis which didn’t allow Smith to shift the gears at any point in the innings. He made 38 fantasy points and proved to be a surprise performer of the Dream11 cricket team.
Aaron Finch
The Aussie Skipper failed to step-up at the big stage when it mattered the most for the team. He was dismissed for a golden duck as Archer trapped him in front of the stumps. He also failed to contribute anything in the field which made him the biggest disappointment of Dream11 cricket players.
We were decent with our predictions in the match. If we had gotten a couple of more top performers in our best grand league team we would have come closer to the overall dream team points. We got 7 players from the dream team and got the captain choice right in our best grand league team.
