The player who has got the best average points score per match is….. Well, no prizes for guessing it right as it cannot get easier than this, it is VIRAT KOHLI. He has scored 43.29 points on an average in an ODI match. However, Rashid Khan gets the top spot when calculating the number of Dream Team Appearances (DTA) as well in Matches per dream team Appearance (MDTA). Rashid Khan has made it to the Dream Team in all but 8 matches in his ODI career of 52 matches. Since he has faced a lot of lower ranking ODI teams like Ireland and Zimbabwe, the number may get a little damaged at the end of this World Cup, but he will still be a part of multiple DTAs.
The most interesting thing to note from the above list is the non-appearance of bowlers in this list. Yes, there are some really good bowlers in it but they are all listed as All-rounders in Dream11. So bowlers who can contribute with the bat in the lower middle order will be critical in this World Cup.
There is no real surprise in the batting list when you see the names that are mentioned. Yes, Chris Gayle has played fewer matches, when compared to others but we are all amazed by the Universe Boss’ recent exploits against England. When the pitches are apt for batting in England than in West Indies and this being the last time we witness Gayle in the Carribean colours mean that there’s a warning of the GAYLE STORM!
Those bowlers who are one dimensional and can contribute only with the ball have gained much lower points than other category players. This trend is likely to continue in World Cup also, considering high scoring contests are expected. If players like Rashid Khan or Chris Woakes are added in bowlers category, then they are much better options than the bowlers mentioned below.
Ben Stokes didn’t have a very good IPL 2019 but he has been in decent white ball form with the bat for England recently. He has three 50+ scores in ODI cricket for England in the last 8 innings. However, he didn’t pick up any wickets in the recently concluded 5 match ODI series against Pakistan. In the last 15 innings that he had bowled, he picked up only 5 wickets.
Wicket keeper/Batsman, who bat at the top of the order clearly have an advantage over others who bat lower down the order. Players like MS Dhoni, Sarfaraz Ahmed or Alex Carey gets to bat a decent amount of deliveries only if the conditions favour bowlers, which is becoming more of a rare phenomenon in ODI cricket.
