Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, India
It’s time for the final league game of the season as the Mumbai Indians set to take on the Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium. It’s a must win game for the Kolkata Knight Riders to finish in top 4. Mumbai Indians have already qualified for the playoffs but winning the game will make them one among the top 2, thanks to their superior NRR over Delhi Capitals
Evin Lewis and Barinder Sran’s place in playing XI for the Mumbai Indians is uncertain after a couple of poor performances. Ishan Kishan and Mitchell McCleneghan can be possible replacements for them. Kolkata Knight Riders have finally found some momentum now and will most likely not make changes to their team. Kuldeep Yadav can come in for either Rinku Singh or Piyush Chawla if they want to alter their balance a bit.
The usual pace and bounce at Wankhede was missing in the last 2 games which led to scores around 160-170. Batsmen didn’t get the usual pace from the ball and it was aiding the spinners a bit more as suggested by Rohit Sharma after the last game.
One can not forget the Hardik Pandya blitzkrieg less than a week ago against Kolkata Knight Riders. He stunned the home crowd to silence with a 34-ball 91 enroute to score the fastest 50 in this edition of IPL (off 17 balls). Hardik Pandya has an impressive 200+ strike rate against the likes of Piyush Chawla (224), Harry Gurney (263) and Sunil Narine (217).
Andre Russell made more headlines than any other player in this IPL for all the right reasons. Recently, there were some criticism after his interaction with the media, but he once again replied it with a stunning 40 ball 80 against the same opposition. His record against the MI bowlers is very good and has also scored a 20 ball 43 in his last game here at the Wankhede Stadium.
Sunil Narine might have not got any wickets in the last game, but dropped chances cost him dearly. He has found rhythm during the later part of the tournament and has picked up 9 wickets in the last 7 games. He has got the better of almost all batsmen from MI except Hardik Pandya in T20’s. If the pitch assists spinners, he will prove to be very valuable for Kolkata Knight Riders.
Rahul Chahar has been the find of the season for the Mumbai Indians. He has picked up 10 wickets in 10 matches so far. He has not got too many wickets at Wankhede stadium, but with the pitch slowing down and helping spinners, he has a very good chance of picking up wickets in bulk.
