Today, the unbeaten Chennai Super Kings will be taking on Rajasthan Royals, who are yet to post a win in IPL 2019 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. To make things worse, RR has only had one happy return journey from ‘The den’ in 6 attempts so far.
Chennai Super Kings is already looking like a settled side even after not utilising one foreign player slot yet. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals might add one more spinning option to their bowling repertoire. It will be interesting to see which player doesn’t make the cut.
It was a very controversial wicket in the last game at Chepauk, where both the captains were critical of the slow and rank-turning nature of the wicket. We can expect a better pitch but still spinners might get more assistance than pacers.
Suresh Raina has been in good striking form so far in IPL. He has improved a lot while facing short balls and has been scoring very good runs of them. Against the fast bowling trio of J Archer, J Unadkat and Ben Stokes, Suresh Raina has scored 70 runs in 45 balls without getting out even once. In fact, nobody has scored more runs than him against RR (598 runs in 20 innings).
Jos Buttler has been in sensational form in the IPL. He is at a certain stage where anything less than 50 runs is considered a failure for him. He will look to quickly bounce back from the last game after a rare failure. However, he has got out to Dwayne Bravo thrice in 28 balls and has played only one T20 game here at MA Chidambaram stadium, where he had scored 19 runs.
If you remember his century against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018, then you will definitely look to have him in your team. He has torn apart the RR bowling attack last season, scoring 106 and 39. Concentrating more on scoring runs than bowling has helped immensely with his batting.
Dwayne Bravo is one of the best death bowlers in the world, especially when the wicket is slow. As mentioned earlier, he has gotten the better of Jos Buttler, Steve Smith (twice in 17 balls) and Ben Stokes (twice in 9 balls).
Shreyas Gopal has been in fine wicket-taking form in IPL, and whenever he goes out to bowl, he makes sure he gets wickets in bulk. In the only game he played against CSK, he returned with wonderful figures of 4-0-20-3. The wicket in Chepauk is likely to assist him.
