Venue: IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab have won 3 games each and lost two so far in the season. They may stand on similar points, but the performance of the respective teams is not the same.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has more problems to sort out. With the middle order continuing their struggle from the previous season and its death bowlers haven’t been able to replicate the good performances from the previous season. On another hand, Kings XI Punjab have fared better, in terms of overall team performance. The only area they should improve on is bowling in the death overs.
A Sporting pitch is likely to be in store for the match, where both pacers and spinners will have their say. While dew is unlikely to aid the chasing team at this venue, even in an 8 PM starter, as more than 68% of the games have been won by teams that bats first here.
The Universe Boss will be eager to compensate for his poor performance from the last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. His form in recent times and form against SRH bowlers might just help him produce a big knock. But in order to make that happen, Gayle has to see off early spells from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, and Rashid Khan, who dismissed him once each in the last 5 encounters.
He is in unbelievable form this season and the form doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon either. His record in Mohali in the last 4 matches is also quite good where he has scored 118 runs. We expect Warner to continue his streak, unless he gets dismissed by Ashwin early in the innings.
The Right-handed batsman is slowly getting into his grooves. In the previous match against Chennai, he may not have shifted the gears at the right time, but the innings on a tough surface would have boosted his confidence for sure. His good record against SRH bowlers might add to his advantage. He has a strike rate of 175 and 138 respectively against Siddarth Kaul and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
The Afghanistan leg-spinner is yet to showcase his full potential in the season, as he isn’t amongst the wickets thus far. He will be eager to bring in his A game against KXIP. He has a good record against their batsmen. In the last few encounters against them, Rashid has had a strike rate of 12.8 and he got the better of KL Rahul twice and Chris Gayle once.
The Kings XI Punjab captain is coming back after a good performance against Chennai and he has been in form this season. He may not have been amongst the wicket-takers but his effective spells played a key role in the sides victories. We expect he will continue the same against SRH batsmen, against whom he has a strike rate of 14.8 in the last five matches played.
