Date & Time: on Friday, 29th March; 08:00pm IST
Venue: Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
Both teams lost their opening match of the season, hence they will both be eager to register their first win. Sunrisers Hyderabad will be more than happy to come back to their home ground, where they have won 15 out of the last 21 matches played here. This match also marks the first faceoff between David Warner and Steven Smith, who are returning after completion of their one-year ban due to the infamous ball tampering incident.
In the pre-match press conference, Tom Moody hinted that a batting surface will be in store on Friday. The Sunrisers’ practice match in the lead up to the season also conveys the same, as a score of 187 had been chased successfully in that match. Weather-wise, there will be no dew effect in the match as the temperatures are likely to stay well above the dew point. So there isn’t going to be a special advantage for the chasing team at this venue.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad captain who missed the first game is now available for selection. He was the leading run scorer for the team in the previous season. He scored 208 runs in the last 5 matches he played in Hyderabad. He also has a good record against Rajasthan Royals’ bowlers, where he has got out only once in the last 5 outings and he strikes at a rate of 140 against them. We expect him to continue with his good record today too. Warner’s return to the side is sure to ease the pressure on him to score, and it will be interesting to see how this changes Williamson’s approach to the game. Our guess is that he might go for the big shots earlier in his innings.
He is in great form of late in this format. He has scored 980 runs in the last 21 matches. In the opening match of the season, he seemed to still have been in great. If not for Ashwin ‘Mankading’ Butler, he would have brought his team to a victory for sure. We all know the astonishing numbers he put up for Royals at the top of the order in the previous season. Rashid Khan may have had his number to Rashid Khan, but if he can weather him tonight there is no stopping him.
The right-handed batsman is in form and we can expect a good knock from him today, against Rajasthan Royals. In Hyderabad he has had a strike rate of 152 in the last couple of matches he has played.
The Afghanistan premier bowler had a good outing in the opening match against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he produced figures of 1/24 in a high scoring contest. He will be eager to repeat his good performance against Rajasthan Royals as well. In his short career, Rashid dismissed Butler thrice and Ben Stokes twice and we can expect him to continue his form today.
He was not at is best in the previous season, but the left arm pacer is getting better of late. His record in Hyderabad is quite good. He picked 8 wickets in the last 3 matches. We expect him to continue this streak in Hyderabad.
