Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Delhi Capitals (DC)

At last Delhi has cleared their playoffs hurdle for the first time since the inception of the league, by winning against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator. Now, they take on the mighty Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 2 on the road to the mega-finale. It is going to be a big challenge for Delhi, as they lost the two matches that they played against Chennai in the league phase. On the other hand, Chennai is yet to play their ‘A’ game in the season but they somehow managed to pull things their way with experience. On Friday, the very experience will be a big factor, as Delhi youth showed signs of vulnerability in sailing the boat safely to the shore many times in this season.

Team News

Both sites are unlikely to change their team combination, unless there is a fitness issue.

Pitch Report

With the eliminator as evidence, we can conclude that the surface here is on the slower side and that it favours spinners. The pacers were also successful when they took pace off the ball. Hence scoring runs during powerplay with hard new ball will be crucial for the teams, just like it was on Wednesday. As for the weather today, dew is likely to play its part in the second half of the game to aid the chasing team.

Players to watch out for

Ambati Rayudu

No one knows the conditions in Vizag better than him, since he has played a lot here in his domestic career. Coming here might help him after a good outing in the last match against Mumbai Indians. He scored 142 runs in the last five games played here which includes a 53 & 44. He also has a good record against Delhi bowlers, as he has a strike rate of more than 130 against most of them with at least 10 balls faced. So he is a worthy pick to have in your Dream11 fantasy cricket team.

Amit Mishra

He may have started slowly, but the seasoned campaigner has found his place in the last few games of this season. His stats may say that he got 6 wickets in last 5 games but if the fielders had held on to their catches, the number would have been higher. In addition, his recent record (last 5 matches) against the Chennai batsmen has been fantastic. He has a strike rate of 16, and he also has gotten the better of Raina & Watson twice each in the period. Clearly he is a must-have bowler in the Dream11 fantasy cricket teams.

Shreyas Iyer

Delhi’s best player of spin may have gone through a couple of low scores. On Friday, he has to come up with his ‘A game’ against Chennai who rely heavily on the spinners to get the job done. He played a characteristic knock against them in Chennai, where other Delhi batsmen struggled to score. He did this even with a mediocre record against Chennai bowlers. It will be interesting to see whether he lives up to the expectations on him or whether he will be following his past record.

MS Dhoni

He has been a consistent batsman so far in the season. On Friday he has to come up with another big knock as other batsmen are struggling to find their form. There is every chance that he will come good in today’s IPL match as per our IPL expert’s predictions, since he already had a telling impact against Delhi in the league phase. Adding to it, he also has good records at the venue, where he has scores of 30, 64 & 29 in the last 3 innings here.

Deepak Chahar

If we consider how the last match panned out here, one thing is quite clear that scoring runs in powerplay is so crucial for teams as it becomes difficult to score runs later in the innings. That’s where Chahar has an important role. For Chennai he has been the go-to man for picking wickets during powerplay. He has the stats on his back to come up with a good show, especially against Delhi openers. Dhawan got out once to Chahar and scored only 27 runs in 34 balls faced, Shaw has got out thrice and scored 22 runs off 23 balls.
