Mumbai Indians knocked Kolkata Knight Riders out of the tournament to book a place in the Qualifier-1. To all the pre-match hype of a close contest between these two sides, the match turned out to be a one-sided affair, as Kolkata struggled to post even a par score on the board. Mumbai Indians chased the score with ease as Kolkata never had a chance to bounce back.
The Mumbai Captain had come up with a half-century in a crunch game. He made the most use of time in the middle in chasing a below-par target on a good batting track. More than his batting, the tactics he employed in the field with the bowlers have come in handy for Mumbai. He made 41.5 fantasy points.
He proved to be expensive in his first 2 overs, but he came up with a match-winning effort in his later 2 overs, as he picked crucial wickets of Russell, Karthik & Rana, who were the core of Kolkata’s batting. His spell certainly changed the dynamics of the match for Kolkata and also for the fantasy cricket players as he made 32 points.
He was the only batsman from Kolkata who showed intent from the start, as he made the most use of the powerplay by taking down Mumbai bowlers to all parts. He failed to continue the same after that as he struggled with pace off the ball. But at the end of the day, he proved to be a worthy pick for the fantasy cricket players as he made 27.5 points.
He broke the opening partnership of Kolkata by picking two wickets in quick succession which also included the wicket of dangerous Chirs Lynn. Post his breakthrough, Kolkata never found the much needed momentum to shift gears. He was also handy with his fielding in the match as he made 26 points overall and proved to be a worthy pick for fantasy cricket players.
He failed to replicate his dominance in the must-win contest for Kolkata. He departed for a golden duck while he failed to avoid a well-directed bouncer from Malinga. Later in the innings, he also proved to be expensive and failed to pick up a wicket. His rare failure proved to be costly for fantasy cricket players as he made -3 points in the match.
He failed to live up to the expectations of fantasy cricket players, as he couldn’t contribute much in the match. His slow start early in the innings meant Lynn had to be ultra-aggressive which indeed cost the wicket of him later in the innings. He made only 4.5 points.
We were decent with our predictions in the match, as we got 8 players from the dream team in our grand league team. But we missed on Top 2 performers of the match in our best grand league team, which resulted in us settling for a mediocre points overall.
