It was a contest of margins on Sunday in Bangalore, as Chennai Super Kings lost by 1 run after a miraculous comeback from nowhere. The win might serve well for Bangalore as it was a close game and also it came to them without big contributions from their usual top performers. For Chennai though, this defeat is a hard pill to swallow, since they almost took the game away from Bangalore, but their efforts were in vain in the last minute.
The Chennai Skipper returned to his usual style after missing the previous game due to a back spasm. When he walked into the crease, Chennai was under pressure with the loss of 4 wickets for just 28 runs. The situation needed a calm head to set things under control and Captain Cool delivered it for them. He was cautious early in the innings and accelerated once he was set especially by targeting specific bowlers. If not for Parthiv Patel’s run out at the end, he would have been on the other side of the spectrum. He made 61.5 points in the match.
He produced the game-changing moment of the match with a runout in the final ball of the innings. His other important contribution was in the first half of the match, where he scored a half-century in a tough situation as Bangalore lost big players easily. He made 47.5 points.
He performed up to the mark with another good spell of bowling. He dismissed the well set Devilliers at a crucial juncture in the match as the wicket of Devilliers didn’t allow Bangalore to score big in middle overs. He made 27.5 points in the with his added contribution in the field.
He got a good start in his regular style but he couldn’t convert it big. To compensate for the lack of runs, he gave his best efforts on the field. He made 25 points overall.
He had come up with an all-round show yesterday. He picked two vital wickets at a critical juncture in the match when Bangalore batsmen tried to add to the score in the end overs. He later held on to the crease alongside Dhoni in the tense chase for some time. He made 24.5 points.
He failed to produce his characteristic knock for Chennai when the team was in deep trouble. He was dismissed without spending much time at the crease, and it put a huge amount of pressure on the batsmen who followed next. He made only 7.5 points.
He had once again failed to come up with a palpable contribution to the team. His dismissal soon after the departure of Watson in the very first over of the chase didn’t go well for the team. He couldn’t contribute any points.
