Venue: Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi, India
The talking point of almost all the matches happening at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium has been the pitch rather than the teams or the players. Of the four attempts so far, the super over win against the Kolkata Knight Riders is Delhi’s only win here. Shreyas Iyer rightly mentioned about the importance of winnings home games. The Kings XI Punjab on the other hand, have a poor record on the road, winning only 1 of their 4 away games so far.
Delhi Capitals are likely to add Sandeep Lamichhane in place of Chris Morris or Keemo Paul, considering the nature of the wicket. Colin Ingram, who is available, is likely to replace Colin Munro. Kings XI Punjab are hit by injuries and the team combination will depend on the availability of players.
Much has been talked about the pitch here at Feroz Shah Kotla. It is turning slower and slower much to the dislike of the home team which primarily thrives on ball coming on to the bat. Another low scoring, turning track is expected.
We have witnessed a mature version of KL Rahul throughout the current edition of IPL. He has been playing the situation and does not worry too much about his strike rate. This strategy has been paying rich dividends for him. For such a tough wicket in Delhi, his calm influence will benefit his team. He has a strike rate of 336 against Amit Mishra and 233 against Chris Morris in T20s recently.
Shikhar Dhawan has been in fine run scoring form in this IPL season. He has given the starts according to his team’s needs and has even made a couple of 50+ scores. R Ashwin however has got him out twice in 28 balls and conceded only 26 runs. Expect him to start the bowling from one end and if Shikhar Dhawan negotiates him, he can then attack to the likes of Mohammad Shami and Andrew Tye, against whom he strikes at 180 and 200 respectively.
The current purple cap holder Kagiso Rabada has not gone wicketless in his last 11 IPL games. Among all players, he is the safest bet for this encounter and is most likely a captaincy candidate for most of the Dream 11 players. He has not bowled too many deliveries to the current KXIP batsmen and if it all anything, it should favour him more than the batsmen.
R Ashwin is coming into this game after having pocketed 10 wickets in his last 6 games. He has been very clever while bringing himself to bowl and has chosen the right batsmen to attack and pick wickets. With the pitch likely to assist spinners, he could come in handy for KXIP.
